What a dental implant is
Three parts, one permanent result
Contrary to what most people picture, an implant has three parts. The implant itself is a small titanium screw placed into the jawbone, where it fuses with the bone over a few months. The abutment is the connector that sits at the gumline. The crown is the visible tooth, matched to your natural teeth in shape and shade.
Because the implant replaces the root, it stops the bone loss that follows a missing tooth and keeps the neighboring teeth from shifting. Nothing is ground down or clasped onto adjacent teeth the way a bridge or partial denture requires.
Your options
Single tooth, several teeth, or a full arch
Single implant
One implant and one crown to replace an individual missing tooth without touching the teeth on either side.
Implant bridge
Two or more implants supporting a fixed bridge where several teeth in a row are missing.
Full-arch (All-on-4)
Four implants per arch supporting a complete fixed set of teeth. See our All-on-4 page for the full process.
Why the specialist matters
Surgery and restoration under one roof
At North Texas Dental Surgery a board-certified Periodontist and an Oral Surgeon/MD place the implants, and two Prosthodontists design and seat the teeth. The in-house lab means fit and aesthetics are corrected in days, not months, and you are not paying three separate practices to coordinate your care.
- Board-certified specialists, not weekend implant courses
- 3D CT scan and a fully digital surgical plan
- In-house lab and designers, nothing outsourced
- Warranty on your implants, written terms at consult
- CareCredit financing and some insurance accepted
