Gum grafting that covers exposed roots and stops recession

Receding gums expose the roots of your teeth, cause sensitivity, and signal underlying bone loss. Gum grafting covers the roots and, just as importantly, replaces thin tissue with a thicker, more durable type that resists future recession.

The technique

Less invasive than the grafting you may have heard about

Dr. Choi performs soft-tissue grafting with your own tissue using tunneling and single-incision donor-site harvesting. Autogenous tissue has been shown in studies to resist relapse better than donor alternatives, and the minimally invasive approach keeps recovery comfortable.

Patients are asked about their discomfort after the procedure. On a 1 to 10 pain scale, the typical answer is a 1 or 2.

Frequently asked questions

Your questions, answered

Why fix receding gums if they don't hurt?
Recession exposes root surfaces to decay and signals bone loss underneath. Treating it early is far simpler than treating the tooth loss that can follow.
Does the graft use tissue from the roof of my mouth?
The tunneling and single-incision techniques used here minimize the donor site compared with older methods, which is a large part of why recovery is so comfortable.
